Case Study: Assisted Living Community Camera Surveillance System
Client: Waterford Estates
Waterford Estates is a rental retirement community that also provides assisted living to their residents.
Project Date:
5/23/2006
Objectives:
The client was looking for a surveillance system to monitor their assisted living floor for protection against theft, robbery, accidents, and to monitor the corridors for residents who may be in need.
What Makes it Unique:
The facility has a central corridor with two additional corridors at each end in a “Y” formation. Each “Y” intersection has a bank of elevators. The client wanted to be able to monitor each corridor and elevator bank as efficiently and cost effectively as possible. To accomplish this task Unique Computing Solutions (UCS) installed one Axis 231D Pan/Tilt/Zoom camera model at each “Y” intersection of the corridors. Each camera was programmed to constantly pan and zoom down each of the end corridors at set intervals. Due to the length of the corridors, the pan and zoom function of the cameras allowed us to install two cameras in what would normally take ten cameras to cover saving the client over $2,000.00 in equipment and labor. The fire doors in the central corridor did not allow for the pan/tilt/zoom camera to cover this area. In this corridor we were able to use two cost effective Axis 206 fixed camera models to capture the entire corridor. UCS’ development of a Power-over-Ethernet solution for this camera model allowed for the use of this camera instead of the use of a more expensive model or the cost of installing electrical wiring, which also saved the client several hundred dollars.
End Result:
Unique Computing Solutions installed a total of four cameras on this floor of the building giving greater security to the facility and piece of mind to it’s senior residents. UCS also provided and installed a Gateway server, which was configured to record and store all of the video images for a period of 30 days or more. These images are recorded using Axis Camera Station, which allows all of the cameras to be monitored at once or selectively at the client’s discretion.
Hardware:
Axis 206 Network Camera
Axis 231D PTZ Network Camera
Gateway Server
Software:
Axis Camera Station
