Case Study: Restaurant Camera Surveillance System
Client: Buffalo Wild Wings – Lincoln Park
Buffalo Wild Wings is a sports bar and restaurant serving lunch and dinner.
Project Date:
8/1/2006
Objectives:
The client was looking for a surveillance system to monitor their restaurant for protection against theft, robbery, accidents, slip and falls, and unruly behavior. Since the client owns and operates several other businesses they also wanted the ability to monitor this facility remotely.
What Makes it Unique:
Unique Computing Solutions (UCS) installed three different camera models in this facility to meet the client’s needs. All cameras need power to operate. This can be accomplished either by providing local power (electrical wiring) or Power-over Ethernet technology (POE), which allows the power to be run through the Ethernet (computer) cable. In an effort to save the client money twelve of the fourteen cameras that were installed were the highly cost effective Axis 206 camera model. This camera model is not Power-over Ethernet (POE) capable, but UCS was able to provide a solution that allowed the use of POE with these cameras. What this means is that we were able to provide power to each of the cameras without the need for additional electrical wiring or the cost of purchasing a more expensive camera model saving the client more than $3,000. On the recording end of these cameras each of them was set-up to record only on motion detection. By recording on motion the client uses less computer hard disk space saving money on computer hardware costs.
End Result:
Unique Computing Solutions installed a total of fourteen cameras including one outdoor to monitor the parking lot. UCS also provided and installed a Gateway computer to record and store all of the video images. These images are recorded using Axis Camera Station, which allows all of the cameras to be monitored at once or selectively at the client’s discretion. The computer was also set-up to allow the client to remotely access the live or recorded video securely with password protection. The client was highly satisfied with the installation of this system and subsequently contracted UCS to install similar systems at their other businesses.
Hardware:
