End Result:
Installed a Dell PowerEdge server that is accessed from Windows Workstations and Macintosh (Mac) based PCs. A Dell PowerVault tape drive and Veritas BackupExec Software was installed for daily backups of the firm´s data. The firm’s accounting software written using FileMaker software and FileMaker databases were moved to the new server. Domain Authentication and directory permissions were implemented on the new server. Network connections were established between the Mac OS 9, Mac OS 10, Windows 2000, and Windows XP workstations to the Windows 2003 server. No additional software was needed to allow the Mac’s to authenticate and access information stored on the Windows 2003 Server. The Windows 2003 server comes bundled with all the necessary software. Before completion of this project, the Firm’s Business Documents, Customer Databases, Financial Information, Financial Software, and Customer Projects including Artwork, Design Layouts and Mail Merge Database were stored on multiple workstations throughout the organization. The data moved from these workstations to the new server exceeded 200 gigabytes of information. Before the installation of the new server and tape backup, the firm had no systems backup or disaster recovery plan.
